Kwara Warns Schools Against Charging Fees For Free Common Entrance Exam

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed that the Placement Examination, popularly known as the Common Entrance Examination, remains free for all eligible pupils, warning public primary and junior secondary schools against collecting any unauthorised fees from parents or guardians.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, gave the directive in Ilorin on Monday.

Olohungbebe stressed that the examination is fully funded by the state government and that no charges have been approved for participating pupils.

He appealed to principals and headteachers to strictly comply with the government’s policy by ensuring that no unauthorised fees are collected from parents or guardians under any guise during the examination process.

Noting that schools have consistently demonstrated commitment to government policies and expressing his expectation that every school leader would sustain that confidence by ensuring the Common Entrance Examination remains completely free for every eligible child.

He said the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq places a high premium on transparency, accountability and equitable access to education, adding that any reported violations would be investigated and addressed appropriately in accordance with established regulations.

The commissioner also urged school administrators to maintain the highest standards of integrity throughout the examination process, reaffirming the government’s commitment to credible, fair and malpractice-free assessments across the state’s education system.

Olohungbebe encouraged parents and guardians to report any request for unauthorised payments through the Ministry’s C2C helpline, assuring them that every genuine complaint would receive appropriate attention.
