New roads driving real estate growth in Abuja, says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, says real estate developers are taking advantage of newly constructed road infrastructure, with building projects rapidly emerging along new road corridors across Abuja.

Mr Wike said this on Friday after inspecting the ongoing construction of access road to the FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura District, from Ring Road II to Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa District, Abuja.

The project includes the construction of one collector road, two Important Local Streets and a minor access road to improve connectivity and enhance access within the rapidly developing districts.

The minister also said the delivery of new road infrastructure was creating positive socio-economic impacts, including increased investment opportunities and employment prospects for young people across the Federal Capital Territory.

Mr Wike described the access road as strategically important, noting that its completion would transform the area’s physical landscape, improve accessibility and stimulate economic activities within adjoining communities and neighbourhoods.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, saying significant progress had been recorded since his last inspection, particularly with the successful completion of the bridge structure within the project.

According to him, while the initial segment of the road project connects directly to the newly completed bridge, the contractor has been directed to extend the project further.

“The first segment of this road is building the bridge that leads to that point, but we have told them that it should be extended to Oladipo Diya Way.

“I have put big pressure on them that it will be very appropriate to also include the extensions so that it will be meaningful,” he said.

The minister, however, said the contractor remained confident of delivering the project within schedule in spite of the additional work introduced through the proposed extension of the road corridor.

“They are still insisting that by December they will hand over the project. What I do not know is if the extension will be included.

“This project will completely alter and improve the topography and landscape of the area once fully completed,” he added.

Mr Wike pledged continued support for the contractor and assured that necessary payments would be processed promptly to sustain progress and ensure timely completion of the infrastructure project.

“We are happy with the job they have carried out. We are going back to see that payments are made to them so they can expedite action.

“We believe that the company will do their best to meet up with the time,” Wike said.
