Nollywood Actress Cynthia Anijekwu Cries Out as Cancer Returns

Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has made an emotional appeal to Nigerians for financial assistance after revealing that she is battling cancer for the second time.

In a video shared on social media on Tuesday, the actress disclosed that she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2023, undergoing surgery followed by chemotherapy in an effort to halt the disease. She explained that doctors initially managed to control the condition after treatment, but the cancer later returned and has since spread to her bones, now requiring more intensive care, including radiation therapy and another surgery.

According to Anijekwu, recent medical examinations revealed that the cancer has spread to her bones, significantly increasing both the cost and complexity of her treatment, which now runs up to N600,000 monthly. She said doctors have recommended radiation therapy along with another surgical procedure as part of her ongoing care.

She recounted that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, after which she underwent surgery and chemotherapy, only for the illness to return later. She said she has since been in and out of the hospital, and doctors recently informed her that the cancer had reached her bones, making treatment considerably more expensive.

Speaking emotionally, she appealed to Nigerians to help her, explaining that her hands have swollen and that the cancer has affected both breasts. She pleaded for support, saying even small contributions could add up to something meaningful that would help her access proper treatment.

Before her health challenges became public knowledge, Anijekwu had built a career in Nollywood, appearing in several English- and Igbo-language productions. However, there is no publicly verifiable record identifying a major blockbuster film or a comprehensive filmography associated with the actress, as public attention in recent years has largely shifted toward her battle with cancer.

The actress said the financial burden has become overwhelming for her family, prompting her decision to seek help from members of the public.
