Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, has said he may not be alive to participate in the next presidential race, alleging that he has become the target of sustained political intimidation.

Obi made the remarks during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, media entrepreneur, in which he reflected on the challenges he claimed to have faced as an opposition figure.

Responding to a question about his political future and the possibility of contesting the 2027 election, Obi said there was no certainty that he would even be alive by then.

“I might not even be alive,” he said, alleging that virtually every aspect of his public and private engagements was being deliberately frustrated.

According to the former Anambra State governor, the alleged actions against him go beyond politics and have affected his daily activities.

Obi maintained that although he was not making a direct accusation against any individual or institution, he experiences what he described as continuous obstruction whenever he attempts to carry out normal activities.

He further alleged that opposition politicians across the country were facing similar treatment, insisting that he had personally been denied privileges and courtesies he believed he was entitled to.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate also recounted an incident at an airport where he claimed officials locked his vehicle despite other vehicles being allowed to remain in the same location. He said the experience reflected what he described as a pattern of hostility towards him.

Obi further claimed that some Nigerians now avoid publicly identifying with him because they fear possible consequences. According to him, some supporters have even discouraged him from attending family ceremonies to prevent unwanted attention.

He, however, did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegations during the interview.
