Peter Obi’s media office rejects Dalung’s claim on Plateau visits

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has dismissed claims by former Minister of Sports Development and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Solomon Dalung, that the Labour Party presidential candidate did not visit Plateau State after the 2023 general elections.
In a statement issued by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, POMR described Dalung’s assertion as false and without foundation.
The media office said Obi had visited Plateau State several times since the 2023 elections and had spent nights in the state on two occasions.
According to the statement, the former Anambra State governor’s visits were driven by humanitarian, political and strategic considerations rather than electoral interests.
POMR stated that Obi visited communities affected by communal violence and insecurity in Bokkos, Mangu, Bassa and Barkin Ladi to sympathise with victims and internally displaced persons.
The statement also said Obi made repeated visits to internally displaced persons’ camps in Mangu and Bokkos, where he provided financial assistance, relief materials and support for clean water initiatives.
It further recalled that Obi marked his 62nd birthday in July 2023 with displaced persons in Mangu Local Government Area instead of holding formal celebrations.
According to POMR, Obi has also maintained regular engagements with traditional rulers, including the Gbong Gwom Jos, as well as government officials in Plateau State.
The media office maintained that Obi’s activities in the state reflected his commitment to humanitarian intervention and drawing national attention to the security challenges facing affected communities.
It therefore urged members of the public to disregard Dalung’s comments.
The statement concluded that the former minister’s claim was “clearly false and without foundation” and should be ignored.
