Power Reform: Okpebholo nominate Five professionals for Edo Electricity Commission

The Edo State Government has announced the nomination of five professionals for appointment into the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, following the approval of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

A government statement said the nominees would provide leadership and regulatory oversight for the state’s electricity sector, in line with the administration’s drive to strengthen power sector governance and improve electricity regulation.

The nominees are Dr. Shittu H. Shaibu as Chairman, Engr. Inegbedion Oria Thomas, Abdulrazak Abubakar, Engr. Alex Edomwonyi Onaiwu and Patrick Eromosele Iluobe, Esq., as members of the commission.

According to the statement, Dr. Shaibu is an experienced public sector administrator and electricity regulation expert with more than three decades of service in Nigeria’s power sector. His career spans the defunct National Electric Power Authority, the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, where he retired in 2024 as General Manager, Consumer Affairs.

The government said Engr. Thomas is a veteran electrical engineer with extensive experience in rural electrification, having retired as Director of Projects at the Rural Electrification Agency in Abuja. His expertise includes project management, technical oversight, planning, pre-commissioning inspections and regulatory compliance.

Abdulrazak Abubakar was described as a financial engineer, researcher and entrepreneur with expertise in quantitative finance, economic policy and blockchain technology. He currently serves as Director and Financial Analyst at RAMIK Accountant (Pty) Ltd, South Africa, and previously worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Johannesburg.

The statement further noted that Engr. Alex Edomwonyi Onaiwu is an electrical engineer with over eight years of experience in technical project delivery, systems design, operational efficiency and engineering leadership.

Patrick Eromosele Iluobe, Esq., was described as a senior legal practitioner and public sector administrator with extensive experience in legal practice, legislative service, public policy coordination, stakeholder engagement and executive advisory roles.

The state government said the nominations reflect Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to assembling a team of competent and experienced professionals to provide effective regulation of the electricity sector in Edo State.

It added that the nominees’ names would be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
