Shakira, Burna Boy thrill fans at historic FIFA World Cup final show

Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy delivered a joint performance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup  official  song, “Dai Dai,” during the first-ever halftime show the the world  cup final.

The performance took place on Sunday at the New York New Jersey Stadium as part of FIFA’s inaugural Super Bowl-style halftime entertainment introduced for the World Cup final.

The artists also featured the  iconic Uganda’s Ghetto Kids,  a dance troupe of orphaned and vulnerable children from the Katwe slums in Kampala.

The halftime show was curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay in partnership with FIFA and Global Citizen, featuring performances by global music stars including Madonna, BTS and Justin Bieber.

The  halftime show marked the first entertainment spectacle of its kind in the history of the FIFA World Cup final.

The 2026 world cup blends football, music and philanthropy on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.

Shakira and Burna Boy have earlier released “Dai Dai” as the official song for the World Cup.

FIFA said royalties from the song would support its Global Citizen Education Fund.

The fund aims to raise $100 million by the end of the tournament to provide children around the world with access to quality education and football opportunities.

Meanwhile, fans across social media have continued to praise Burna Boy’s appearance alongside Shakira, describing the feat as another milestone for Nigerian music and the continued global rise of Afrobeats stars.
