Transfer: ‘Why I left Chelsea’ – Alejandro Garnacho

Argentina international, Alejandro Garnacho has subtly criticized Chelsea for their absence from European football this season.

This is following his decision to join Aston Villa from the west London club.

Garnacho’s career has experienced a decline over the past 18 months, particularly after his time at Manchester United came to an end.

A disagreement with Ruben Amorim led to him being considered expendable by United, culminating in a contentious departure marked by a childish response to his exclusion from the starting lineup in the Europa League final.

Garnacho seemed to imply that he had the last laugh when Chelsea intervened to rescue him from his challenging situation at Old Trafford, agreeing to a £40 million transfer fee.

However, the 22-year-old struggled to adapt in west London, finding it difficult to secure a consistent first-team position under either Enzo Maresca or Liam Rosenior.

After making only 14 Premier League starts for Chelsea last season, Garnacho is set to move again, optimistic about revitalizing his career under Unai Emery’s management.

Rather than viewing his transfer to Villa Park as a step backward, Garnacho believes that participating in the Champions League will provide an ideal opportunity for him to demonstrate his skills in a competition that Chelsea did not qualify for.

“I think it’s also important to play in European competitions,” Garnacho stated when discussing his reasons for leaving Chelsea.

“I was looking for a club that would restore my confidence and help me return to the player I was during my early years at Manchester United.

“I spoke with Unai before I arrived here, and he instilled that confidence in me, the confidence to be here.

I witnessed the Europa League victory last season, and participating in the Champions League is significant as it represents the pinnacle of football.

‘We are set to compete in it this season, and I am truly delighted; I hope we can achieve something remarkable,” he said.

Chelsea is reportedly seeking approximately £42.5 million for any permanent transfer of the winger, who has initially joined Villa on loan.

Earlier this summer, Garnacho was informed that he would not be assured a regular starting position at Stamford Bridge, leading to the decision that he could depart.

Interest has been shown from clubs in the Premier League, Italy, and other parts of Europe, as well as from Saudi Arabia.
