Urhobo, Isoko elites to honour Lagos deputy chief of staff, Sam Egube

A coalition of Urhobo and Isoko professionals in Lagos is set to host a reception in honour of Samuel Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor and former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, at Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, with the theme: “Celebrating excellence. honouring leadership. building legacy.”

According to the organisers, the gathering is intended to recognise Egube’s impact in public service and governance, while also highlighting the role of Urhobo and Isoko professionals in the development of Lagos State.

They emphasised that the occasion goes beyond celebrating an individual, describing it as a platform to spotlight leadership, integrity, and cultural identity, as well as to inspire emerging professionals.

“The event will feature distinguished guests from government, the private sector, traditional institutions, the diplomatic community and professional bodies,” the group stated.

The Urhobo and Isoko Elites in Lagos, a network comprising professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, public servants and community leaders, said it remains committed to fostering unity, mentorship, leadership excellence and strategic partnerships that contribute to national development.

The organisers added that the reception would also promote cultural pride and strengthen ties among Urhobo, Isoko and the broader South-South community resident in Lagos.

In his current role as Deputy Chief of Staff, Egube plays a key administrative function within the Governor’s office, overseeing executive coordination and supporting cabinet operations in what is regarded as Africa’s largest subnational economy.

Prior to this appointment, he served as Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, where he was actively involved in development planning, fiscal management, budget formulation and performance monitoring.

During his tenure, he co-chaired the Ehingbeti Economic Summit, where the Lagos State Development Plan 2022–2052 — a long-term growth framework — was unveiled.

He also co-led the Local Organising Committee for Invest Lagos 3.0 and chaired the committee for the E1 Lagos GP, the world’s first all-electric powerboat championship hosted in the state.

According to the organisers, the event attracted an estimated $100 million in investment value and was positioned to boost tourism, marine business and sustainability initiatives.

Before transitioning into public service, Egube built a career in banking and financial advisory, holding senior roles across institutions including Diamond Bank (now Access Bank), First Bank of Nigeria, NNB International Bank and United Bank for Africa, with experience spanning energy, corporate and retail banking, as well as structured finance.
