Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has been captured in a viral video leaving the courtroom after the High Court delivered its judgment in the Akonta Mining case involving Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and others.
In the video, shared by The1957News and widely circulated on social media, Dr Srem-Sai is seen walking out of the court premises after proceedings ended when journalists approached him for a reaction.
When asked how he felt about what appeared to be a major victory for the prosecution, the Deputy Attorney General avoided giving an immediate response.
“I’m sure a lot of people are applauding you because indeed you have fought a good fight,” a journalist said.
“Let me just position myself…” Dr Srem-Sai replied as he made his way through the crowd.
Despite repeated attempts by journalists to get his comments, he proceeded directly to his vehicle without addressing the media.
The video comes after the High Court concluded the high-profile Samreboi illegal mining case, in which Chairman Wontumi was convicted and sentenced for offences linked to illegal mining.
The case has attracted widespread public attention because of its connection to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and the involvement of one of the NPP’s senior regional officials.
