Surveillance footage allegedly shows Franklin Davis entering a car while the woman was still sitting inside.
He reportedly poured gasoline across the dashboard and front seats before setting the vehicle on fire. The car became covered in flames within seconds.
Despite suffering third-degree burns to her leg, the woman managed to escape from the burning vehicle.
Davis also suffered burns during the incident.
Authorities believe he targeted the woman because she ended their relationship after 42 years together.
Davis now faces several criminal charges, including attempted murder and first-degree arson.
