Demolition operations targeting properties obstructing waterways have commenced in Maitama following a directive issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike..
The minister, having conducted an inspection of flood-affected zones from Sunday’s inundation, mandated the destruction of multiple structures.
All buildings impeding waterways and drainage infrastructure associated with recent flooding in Maitama and adjoining sections of the capital will be demolished before Saturday.
The minister stated that inhabitants had constructed on water channels under the presumption that consequences would not materialise, stressing that absence of past incidents does not guarantee future prevention.
He characterised the impending demolitions as necessary, declaring that every structure positioned on water channels would be removed within the prescribed timeframe.
