CP Edo, Kogi Collaborate To Improve Security At The Border Towns

The Edo State Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor and his Kogi State Counterpart Naziru Kankarofi have embarked on a collaborative effort to improve security within the border towns of both States.

The Edo PPRO, Auchi and Agenebode Area Commanders and other top police officers from Edo State Police Command were part of the Edo CP’s entourage to Okene, Kogi State to discuss the collaborative strategies and efforts to dislodge criminal elements in border town of Edo and Kogi State.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi, Area Commander of Okene and the PPRO Kogi State received the entourage from Edo State and later moved to the hotspot and hideout of kidnappers at Agomi forest along Abuja/Okene highway.

Briefing CPs from Edo and Kogi State at the entrance of the forest along Abuja/Okene highway, the Area Commander Okene, Nosa Onukwube said the kidnappers target long distance travellers along the route.

He said that the kidnap incident recorded along the route happens around 5 to 7 pm in the evening, not morning as their victims are taken deep into the forest which is their hideout from where ransom is negotiated.

Speaking to the press inside the forest, CP Kogi State Naziru Kankarofi commended the collaborative effort between Kogi State governor Usman Adodo and his Edo State Counterpart Senator Monday Okpebholo to checkmate criminal activities in both states, which has further informed the collaborative effort of both CPs.

“The two commands have been in operations in remote areas of the forest and most of the hideout of the criminal elements have been destroyed and they have been pushed to the inter-land.

“We share large borders and the border communities have been cooperating with security in fighting crime and criminality. This cooperation between both states is in line with the vision of the inspector general of police (IGP) Olatunji Disu to strengthen collaboration among the States to further strengthen the security architecture of the country”.

Commissioner of Police Edo State, Patrick Daaor said the collaboration will strengthen the existing law enforcement strategy already in place, noting that part of the strategy is for area commanders of both states to have real time interaction.

He noted that synergy between both states will help tackle insecurity and criminal network despite the challenging topography which is surmountable.

“We encourage more collaboration from the local communities as we are ready to work with them to fight crime and criminality. We will sustain the collaboration in line with the vision of the IGP. This corridor is a very strategic corridor and we will make sure that it’s free from criminality”.

The CP Edo and Kogi State command held a meeting with residents and members of Oguda town in Okene local government area of Kogi State and the Chairman of Okene local government area Hon. Ahmed Nuhu Enesi was present in the meeting as strategies to further strengthen security in the area was discussed.
