Rite Foods says it recovered and removed more than 858.2 tonnes of plastic waste from the environment in 2025 through its partnership with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance, supporting circular economy initiatives and marine conservation.

The firm disclosed this in its 2025 Sustainability Report obtained by The PidomNigeria last week.

The report added that as climate change presents growing risks to business continuity and societal well-being, the firm remains committed to responsible environmental stewardship.

The report also stressed that within the period under review, the company recorded an estimated seven per cent reduction in emissions intensity compared to the previous reporting year, driven by improved energy efficiency and operational optimisation.

“In alignment with IFRS S2, we continue to assess climate-related risks and opportunities across our value chain and integrate mitigation measures into our operations. Furthermore, over 93 per cent of our energy mix was sourced from gas, which is a cleaner fuel than diesel, while we remain focused on increasing investment in renewable energy solutions, including expanded solar capacity. In addition, in partnership with the FBRA, we recorded the recovery and removal of over 858.2 tonnes of plastic waste from the environment, contributing to circular economy outcomes and marine protection,” the report stated.

According to the report, these initiatives demonstrate the firm’s commitment to reducing environmental impact while supporting national sustainability priorities.

The report stated that in 2025, the company sustained the alignment of sustainability practices with its core values of integrity, excellence, innovation, and accountability.

“For us to continue to deliver on our sustainability imperatives, we create the environment and equip our workforce to operate with integrity and accountability at all times, while emphasising operational excellence. We promoted sustainability awareness and encouraged the participation of our workforce through internal sustainability campaigns and volunteering initiatives,” the report stated.

The report highlighted that within the period under review, the firm participated in the Plastic-Free July campaign, designed to promote responsible plastic disposal and environmental awareness within and beyond the workplace.

It emphasised that, to institutionalise sustainability across the business, ESG metrics were integrated as shared key performance indicators for key employees, reinforcing accountability at all levels of the organisation.

This approach, according to the report, ensured that sustainability performance was not limited to a single function but shared across departments.

“The company also sustained its sustainability champions programme, with designated employees across departments driving peer education, internal advocacy, and data support for sustainability initiatives. In addition, we made good progress in promoting awareness and adherence to our sustainability policies and practices among our vendors,” the report further indicated.

The 2025 Sustainability Report is the second edition published by Rite Foods Limited. It presents information on our sustainability-related risks and opportunities, governance approach, strategy, performance, and progress during the reporting year. The report is intended to provide transparent, balanced, and decision-useful information that supports stakeholders’ understanding of how sustainability matters influence our business model, operational resilience, and long-term value creation, in line with evolving global sustainability disclosure expectations.
