Immigration officer k!lls self in accidental discharge in Abuja

An officer with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Joseph Ali, has reportedly d!ed after a locally fabricated rifle he was handling accidentally discharged and struck him in the left eye in Abuja.

Sahara Reporters reports that the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. in Compensation Layout, Old Kutunku, Abuja, while Ali was preparing to leave his residence for work.

According to the report, a distress call was received from the area following the accidental discharge involving the immigration officer.

It is said that Ali had dressed and was preparing to report for duty when he picked up the locally fabricated rifle, which he reportedly used to secure the community, intending to conceal it before leaving for work. However, he was allegedly unaware that the firearm was cocked.

In the process of picking it, the rifle discharged, with the pellets hitting him on the left eye”. all in the presence of Ali’s wife and children.

He was immediately rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), where a doctor on duty examined him and reportedly confirmed that he had d!ed.

His remains were subsequently deposited at the mortuary of the hospital pending an autopsy.
