Lagos Gov Sets New Rules for Car Spotters

The Lagos State Government has warned vehicle enthusiasts against conducting car-spotting activities on public highways, stating that such activities must not hinder traffic or cause a nuisance.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, issued the warning in a post online, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in response to an internet video showing car-spotting activities in Lagos.

Wahab stated that vehicle enthusiasts are welcome to pursue their interests, but they must do so without interrupting traffic or interfering with other people’s privacy.

“You can do your car spotting without constituting a nuisance or obstructing the road in any way.”

He advised automobile spotters to attend parking lots and other acceptable spots where they could observe and photograph vehicles without interfering with traffic.

“You are welcome to visit car lots and engage in your car-spotting activities there.”

However, the commissioner made it plain that loitering on public roadways just for car spotting would be prohibited.

“However, staying on the road for this purpose will not be allowed in any way.”

Wahab also expressed privacy concerns, describing roadside automobile spotting as a nuisance and warning that the state government would not allow acts deemed a violation of privacy.

“Aside from being a nuisance, it is also a breach of privacy and will not be tolerated by the State Government.”

The warning comes as car spottingwhere enthusiasts gather to photograph or record luxury, exotic and high-performance vehicles continues to attract attention in Lagos.
