MTN Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to advancing digital education through the donation of 149 MiFi devices to teachers at the fourth Digital Educator Conference & Exhibition in Lagos.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening teachers’ access to reliable connectivity, enabling them to tap into digital learning resources, enhance classroom instruction, and participate in ongoing professional development.

It reflects the company’s belief that empowering educators is critical to preparing students for success in an increasingly digital world.

The devices were presented on August 6 at the Ecobank Headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos. The conference brought together more than 700 educators, policymakers, school administrators, technology experts and development partners across the country to explore ways of bridging the digital skills gap and equipping teachers with the knowledge and tools needed to deliver future-ready learning experiences. The intervention comes at a time when teacher preparedness and learning outcomes remain central to conversations around education reform in Nigeria.

Speaking on the donation, Idowu Adesokan, General Manager, Consumer Segment Management at MTN Nigeria, said the company remains committed to supporting educators with the resources needed to succeed in modern learning environments. He noted that reliable connectivity has become essential for teaching, professional development and access to global educational resources, adding that equipping teachers with digital tools ultimately contributes to better outcomes for learners.

“The future of education depends on the ability of teachers to adapt to a rapidly changing digital landscape. Through this donation, we are improving access to connectivity and digital resources. We are enabling educators to engage with new teaching methods, access global knowledge networks, and better prepare learners for the demands of the modern economy. Our goal is to ensure that teachers remain at the centre of Nigeria’s digital transformation,” he said.

One of the recipients, Ibukunoluwa Ogooluwa, a biology teacher at Deeper Life High School, Abeokuta Campus, described the donation as a practical intervention that would enhance teaching and professional development opportunities for educators.

“We are grateful to MTN Nigeria for this timely support. Reliable internet connectivity is essential for teachers seeking to access digital learning resources, participate in professional development programmes and improve classroom delivery. This donation will help many educators stay connected to the tools, knowledge and opportunities needed to better serve their students,” she said.

Ogooluwa noted that investments in teacher connectivity and digital capacity could have a lasting impact on learning outcomes, particularly as schools increasingly adopt technology-enabled teaching methods.

The donated MiFi devices will provide teachers with continued access to online learning platforms, instructional materials, and professional development opportunities beyond the conference. By supporting educators with the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly connected world, the initiative reinforces the role of collaboration between the private sector and the education community in building a more digitally inclusive future for Nigerian learners.
