NiDCOM hails Nigeria’s first indigenous female neurosurgeon on appointment as US Medical Director

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has congratulated Nigeria’s first indigenous female neurosurgeon, Dr. Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu-Ibrahim, on her appointment as the Medical Director of a children’s hospital in the United States of America.

Dabiri-Erewa described the appointment as another remarkable milestone for Nigerians in the diaspora and a testament to the exceptional contributions of Nigerian professionals globally.

She noted that Dr. Aliu-Ibrahim’s achievement once again reinforces the fact that excellence knows no gender, race or religion, adding that her success serves as an inspiration to millions of young Nigerians, especially girls aspiring to pursue careers in medicine and other demanding professions.

According to her, the appointment also sends a powerful message that Muslim women continue to break barriers and excel in every sphere of life despite stereotypes and prejudice.

“Dr. Salamat Aliu-Ibrahim’s appointment is yet another reminder that Muslim women cover their hair, not their brains. Her remarkable achievement demonstrates that faith and excellence are not mutually exclusive. She has become a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless young girls across Nigeria and beyond.”

The NiDCOM Chairman encouraged Muslim women and all young Nigerians to remain steadfast in pursuing excellence, stressing that competence, integrity and hard work will always distinguish those committed to making meaningful impact.

While celebrating the appointment, Dabiri-Erewa also expressed concern over the continuous migration of highly skilled Nigerian healthcare professionals to other countries in search of better opportunities.

She observed that although Nigerians in the diaspora continue to distinguish themselves globally and make invaluable contributions to humanity, the nation is already addressing the persistent challenges confronting its healthcare sector by improving the welfare, remuneration and working conditions of medical professionals.

She noted that creating an enabling environment for healthcare workers would help reduce the increasing brain drain while strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system for sustainable national development.

Dabiri-Erewa commended Dr. Aliu-Ibrahim for flying the Nigerian flag high through excellence, dedication and professionalism, wishing her continued success in her new role.

She reiterated that NiDCOM remains committed to celebrating outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora whose achievements continue to enhance the country’s image and inspire future generations.
