Operations resume at Lagos airport terminal after fire scare
A fire incident reported on Sunday at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos prompted an emergency response by aviation authorities, with normal operations later resuming at the facility.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had earlier confirmed the outbreak, stating that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was immediately deployed to the scene to respond to the incident and prevent it from escalating.
According to the authority, emergency personnel were mobilised to ensure the safety of passengers and airport facilities within the terminal area.
FAAN also assured the public that no casualties or injuries were recorded.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the agency said in its initial statement.
In a subsequent update, FAAN announced that activities at the terminal had returned to normal.
“Normal operations have resumed at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, following the earlier incident. Passengers are being processed, and flight activities are continuing as scheduled,” the authority stated.
The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, while FAAN said further details would be provided as more information becomes available.
