Oriire abduction: Oyo panel calls for public memoranda

The Judicial Commission of Enquiry set up by the Oyo State Government to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area has called on members of the public with relevant information to submit written memoranda to assist its investigation.

The call was contained in a public notice signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Mrs. Olamide Sandra Tella.

According to the notice, the Commission is seeking “relevant information, facts, evidence, or materials relating to the abduction” to aid its assignment.

It stated that memoranda should cover “the circumstances leading to and surrounding the incident,” “the circumstances of the abduction and subsequent developments,” as well as “the security situation before, during, and after the incident.”

The Commission also requested information on “any acts, omissions, or circumstances that may have contributed to the occurrence,” the response of relevant authorities, institutions, communities and individuals, and “recommendations considered appropriate for preventing a recurrence of similar incidents.”

According to the notice, persons submitting memoranda are required to provide “their full names, contact details, and any supporting documents or materials, where applicable.”

The notice directed that all memoranda be addressed to the Secretary, Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the Abduction of Students and Teachers in Esinele and Yawota Communities, Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

It added that submissions may be made physically at the Commission’s Secretariat, Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, or electronically via [email protected].

The Commission fixed August 14, 2026, as the deadline for submission of memoranda.

Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated the Judicial Commission of Enquiry on July 31 to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ahoro Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

The panel is expected to establish the facts surrounding the incident, review the response of relevant authorities and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
