Harry Maguire has come under heavy criticism following Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat against Hull City.
The Red Devils suffered the unexpected loss at the MKM Stadium during their opening Premier League match of the season.
Fans blamed Maguire for his actions during Hull City’s first goal in the 17th minute.
United goalkeeper Senne Lammens made a close-range save, but Semi Ajayi reacted quickly and scored from the rebound.
Video replays appeared to show Maguire holding his Manchester United teammate Noussair Mazraoui while trying to defend the corner.
Supporters claimed Maguire may have mistaken Mazraoui for a Hull City player. The incident allowed Ajayi to move into a better position before scoring.
The video quickly spread across social media. Ibynews.com gathered some reactions from angry supporters.
“Herh Maguire ei.”
“Sell him asap.”
“I don’t understand Maguire at all.”
“Playing against us.”
“Maguire is such a clown.”
Nobel Mendy later scored Hull City’s second goal, leaving Manchester United unable to recover.
The defeat was also painful for Maguire because he played for Hull City between 2015 and 2017.
Manchester United will now focus on their next Premier League match as pressure grows on Michael Carrick and his players.
