Seven persons were killed while two others sustained injuries in a multiple road traffic crash in the early hours of Monday around Kara on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The fatal crash, which occurred at about 12:03am, involved three vehicles: A white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.
This was according to a statement issued and made available to newsmen by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday.
The statement was signed by the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi.
According to the statement, nine persons, all males, were involved in the crash.
The FRSC said its Ibafo Outpost received information about the crash at about 12:04am and arrived at the scene five minutes later, at approximately 12:09am.
The crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation (SPV) identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.
According to the FRSC, the deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service.
It added that the two injured victims were taken away for medical attention, while the crashed vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further necessary action.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and avoid behaviours that could endanger other road users.
Ogunjobi advised motorists to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.
He also cautioned motorists to exercise extra care at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road traffic crashes.
The Sector Commander commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the crash and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
