Step down as FIFA President — NFF tells Gianni Infantino

The calls for the resignation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino seems to not be winding down soon.

Infantino appeared to have held off the potential of an internal revolt during a summit meeting with top staff in Rabat, Morocco. FIFA said the president had been given the full support of those in attendance.

But now, the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has become the first national association to formally demand FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s immediate resignation.

NFF President Lise Klaveness stated that Infantino has lost all institutional trust following a controversial and aborted plan to sell World Cup commercial stakes to private investors.

However, Klaveness stated that the ongoing governance controversies have taken FIFA’s leadership beyond the point of no return.

“He does not have the institutional trust required to lead FIFA in a stable manner in the current climate. There is no turning back for Gianni Infantino,” Klaveness said, following a meeting of the Norwegian federation’s governing bodies.

“We are going to ask the FIFA president to resign now,” she said. “Given the chaos we find ourselves in, he can no longer be the figure capable of uniting people.” European soccer’s governing body UEFA said its threat to boycott the World Cup and other FIFA competitions remained in place despite FIFA abandoning and apologizing for its failed plan.

It reiterated its stance that it had lost confidence in Infantino.
