Tinubu celebrates, hails Hausa’s role in Nigeria’s unity

President Bola Tinubu has described the Hausa people as “great pillars” who play an essential role in the unity, progress, and social-cultural development of Nigeria.
The President shared this goodwill message on Wednesday via his official X handle to commemorate the annual Hausa Day, with central celebrations taking place at the historic Daura Palace in Katsina State.
Tinubu said the Hausa language had flourished and become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.
“The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria.
“The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.
“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today,” he said.
Hausa Day, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed annually on August 26.
It began as a social media initiative by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote the use of the Hausa language online and raise awareness of its cultural significance.
The observance has since expanded into international celebrations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, even though it has not yet received formal United Nations recognition.
Hausa is one of the top languages in Nigeria.
It is also one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa and ranks among the top languages globally by number of speakers.
