Transfer: ‘They pay highest wages’ – ex-Chelsea star, Cascarino on impossibility of Vinicius Jr’s move to Arsenal

Former Chelsea player, Tony Cascarino, has shared his perspective on why he believes Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr will not make a move to Premier League club Arsenal.

Vinicius is currently regarded as one of the best forwards in the world. The Brazilian has scored 128 goals and provided 100 assists in 375 matches for Real Madrid across all competitions.

The 26-year-old had an impressive performance during the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Brazil, netting four goals and contributing an assist in five matches. With his contract set to expire at the conclusion of the 2026-27 season, Arsenal has made an unexpected attempt to lure him away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

In light of the increasing interest from the Gunners last week, it was reported that Real Madrid had begun discussions regarding a contract extension with Vinicius’ representatives. However, recent reports indicate that these negotiations have stalled, and the reigning Premier League champions are poised to make a move to secure his services.

Cascarino, who played 45 matches for Chelsea from 1991 to 1994, is convinced that the Brazilian will not transition from Madrid to North London. During a recent appearance on talkSPORT, the 63-year-old Irishman stated, “I just can’t envision that happening. Consider the history. Some might argue, ‘Oh, it (a Real Madrid player moving to Arsenal) occurred with (Martin) Odegaard’, but Vinicius Jr has consistently played for Real Madrid and has been an outstanding player for them over the years. They acquired Odegaard when he was on loan and subsequently purchased him.

“Who truly leaves Real Madrid? It’s difficult to sign a Real Madrid player, as they pay the highest wages. I would love to see him in the Premier League, I genuinely would. Will it occur? I believe it is far less likely than many assume,” Cascarino added.

Vinicius Jr is reportedly seeking a salary of approximately €30 million annually (~€577,000 weekly), while Real Madrid has proposed an offer of €20 million per year (~€385,000 weekly). Meanwhile, reports suggest that Arsenal is willing to break their wage structure to secure the Brazilian.
