Two Men Arraigned In Lagos Over Alleged N10m Toyota Parts Theft

Two men were arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court in Ikeja over alleged conspiracy, breach of peace and theft of Toyota vehicle parts valued at N10,000,000.

The defendants, Abba Muhammed, 20, and Adamu Muri, 22, were brought before the court by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.

According to the charge sheet, the prosecution alleged that the defendants and others currently at large committed the offences sometime in June 2026 at Alausa, Ikeja, within the Lagos Magisterial District.

In Count one, the Police alleged that Abba Muhammed, Adamu Muri and others at large conspired among themselves to commit the offences. The offence is punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

In Count two, they were also accused of conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace at Alausa, Ikeja. The prosecution said their actions created tension in the area on the said date.

The offence under Count two is punishable under Section 165 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

In Count three, the defendants were accused of stealing several vehicle parts belonging to one Olakorede Foluso of No.10, Amara-Olu Street, Off Lateef Jakande Street, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The prosecution listed the stolen items to include two Toyota Highlander 2018 Model catalytic converters valued at N3,000,000, two Toyota Highlander 2019 Model catalytic converters also valued at N3,000,000.

They were further alleged to have stolen three Toyota Tacoma parts valued at N4,000,000. The total value of the stolen property was put at N10,000,000.

The offence of stealing is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. The matter was said to have been investigated by the Police at Alausa Division.

The Investigating Police Officer, ASP Kabiru-Kushoro Uthman of Alausa Division, handled the case. The prosecution was led by officials from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Ogba, Lagos.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the three counts when they were read to them.

The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted them bail with two sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The case was adjourned for further mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.

Legal experts note that every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
