Two rescued as building collapses in Abuja

Two residents have been successfully rescued alive after a one-storey residential building partially collapsed at Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page, in Abuja.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Nkechi Isa, Head of Media and Public Relations at the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD), confirmed the development in a statement.

She said the victims were trapped on the ground floor of the property when the right segment of the structure caved in.

According to Isa, the affected building comprises six blocks of flats, and other occupants of the property were out at the time of the incident, a development that helped limit the number of persons caught up in the collapse.

She said the FEMD received a distress call at 11:38am and swiftly mobilised to the scene to extract the trapped victims.

While the two residents were pulled out alive without fatalities, the collapse resulted in significant loss of personal belongings and household items, she added.

Isa said the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also responded to the incident to secure the area and initiate investigations into the structural failure.

The two rescued individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
