Germany has confirmed the amount foreign jobseekers must show when applying for its Opportunity Card in 2026.
The Opportunity Card allows eligible people from outside the European Union to enter Germany and search for work without already having a confirmed job offer.
Applicants must prove that they can support themselves financially during their stay.
For 2026, the required amount is at least €1,091 net per month. Someone applying for the full 12 months would normally need €13,092 in a blocked account.
A blocked account holds the required money and limits how much the person can withdraw each month.
Applicants do not pay €1,091 as a monthly government fee. The money remains theirs and is released monthly to cover living expenses.
Instead of opening a blocked account, an applicant may use a declaration of commitment from someone living in Germany who agrees to support them financially.
A part-time employment contract may also count as financial proof. If the monthly net salary is below €1,091, the applicant can place the remaining difference in a blocked account.
The Opportunity Card is normally issued for up to 12 months. It also allows holders to work part-time for up to 20 hours per week while searching for qualified employment.
Applicants must still meet the qualification and, where applicable, points and language requirements. The financial requirement alone does not guarantee approval.
The euro amount converted into naira will change with the exchange rate. Applicants should check the current rate before preparing their funds.
