2027: Group warns of N-West backlash over Dangiwa’s cabinet exit

ABUJA — A pro-democracy group, the Partnership for Democratic Awareness and Good Governance (P4DAGG), has warned that the exit of former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the Federal Executive Council could trigger political backlash in the North-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group said the manner of Dangiwa’s departure, first widely perceived as a dismissal before the Presidency clarified it as a resignation, has unsettled many and could carry political consequences in a region seen as pivotal to the 2027 elections.

In a statement by its President, Comrade Usman Bello, and Secretary, Aisha Sani, P4DAGG called for closer scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the minister’s exit.

“The President risks political backlash in Katsina and across some states in the North-West region ahead of the 2027 elections if this situation is not addressed,” the group warned.

They also urged anti-graft agencies to probe allegations involving a senior presidential aide, accusing the official of acting in ways that undermine development in Katsina State.

“He has repeatedly used his position to pursue personal interests at the expense of the state’s development,” the group alleged.

The group also alleged that the aide had been engaging political actors ahead of the 2027 elections with promises of key campaign roles.

They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “beam a searchlight” on the situation, warning that failure to act could weaken the administration’s anti-corruption stance and erode support for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the North-West.
