46-year-old man sentenced to life imprisonment for r@ping his daughter in Calabar

A 46-year-old man, Imeh Sunday, has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for r@ping his daughter in Cross River State.

The judgement was delivered on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 by Family Court 2 sitting in Calabar, presided over by Justice Blessing Egwu, following overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution. 

 

The case was prosecuted with the support of the Basic Rights Council Initiative (BRCI), a non-governmental organisation focused on protecting the rights of children and indigent women.

 

Speaking after the judgement, Principal Counsel of BRCI, James Ibor (Esq.), said the conviction was part of ongoing efforts to secure justice for survivors of s3xual violence in the state.

Barrister Ibor also commended the survivor, her family, law enforcement authorities and judicial officers for their roles in ensuring justice was served.

 

“I wish to commend the survivor, her grandparents, the Honourable Attorney General, Ededem Charles Ani, the Commissioner of Police, the judiciary, as well as the staff and volunteers of BRCI for their commitment and support toward the survivor and her recovery,” he wrote.
