Justice Delayed, Democracy at Risk? ADC Takes Urgent Battle to Supreme Court

The tension at the core of justice is starting to seem like a creeping fracture; it is no longer calm.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the Supreme Court of Nigeria, addressing their appeal to the Chief Justice of Nigeria’s office in a move that carries significant urgency and consequences. Their message is one of caution rather than diplomacy.

The party claims that the protracted delay in rendering a decision on its internal disagreement is dangerous rather than merely procedural. They contend that as time goes on, uncertainty grows, the party structure becomes more unstable, and there is a chance that “irreparable harm” will occur.

Not only to their political prospects, but also to the legitimacy of judicial promptness in general.

Something more personal is hidden under the legalese: a rising sense of desertion by a system designed to make things clear. When justice is seen as distant or delayed, political players are suspended in limbo, reputations are at jeopardy, and democratic processes run the risk of being distorted.

However, the ADC’s petition compels a confrontation rather than only voicing complaints. It poses a challenging but important question: who is responsible when justice is postponed at the highest level?

Here, the stakes go beyond the internal strife of one party. The level of institutional trust in Nigeria is being subtly tested at this time. Even the correct ruling may be rendered without the ability to heal if the court speaks too late.
