Kebbi youth council seeks more youths in elective offices

The Kebbi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria has applauded Bola Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris for what it described as significant infrastructure development, while calling for greater youth inclusion in elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
State Chairman of the council, Engineer Ahmed Khalifa, made the call on Saturday on the sidelines of the All Progressives Congress unity rally in Birnin Kebbi, where he urged the state government to actively support and encourage young people to contest for political offices.
“While youths in Nigeria and Kebbi State have had some level of representation, it is time to deepen that inclusion by creating more opportunities for them to run for elective positions,” Khalifa said.
He stressed that youth participation remains vital to sustaining democracy, noting that their role in nation-building cannot be overstated.
“Youth participation in politics is critical to sustainable democracy. Their contributions to nation-building are immeasurable. We need the support of Governor Idris and President Tinubu to attain our full political potential,” he added.
Khalifa reaffirmed the council’s “unalloyed support” for both leaders, while urging young people across the state to begin preparations for active participation in the 2027 elections.
He also commended the Kebbi State Government for various youth-focused initiatives, particularly empowerment programmes and emerging social safety net policies.
“The ongoing youth interventions, especially in empowerment and social protection, will have direct and positive impacts on young people across the state when fully implemented,” he said.
The NYCN chairman, however, cautioned youths against being used as instruments of violence during elections, urging them to uphold peace and democratic values.
“Shun violence and refuse to be used by unpatriotic and overzealous politicians. The future belongs to you, and it must be secured through peaceful and responsible participation,” Khalifa warned.
