Mustapha pledges continued service ahead of traditional title

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to public service and community development ahead of a traditional title to be conferred on him.

The lawmaker made the remarks following notification of his nomination as the first “Tabariki Nupe,” a title to be bestowed by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, who also chairs the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers.

A delegation from the Bida Emirate Council delivered a Letter of Credence to the senator at his office in Abuja, formally conveying the decision.

The delegation, led by Alhaji Kassim N. Yawa, Chairman of the Bida Emirate Traditional Turbaning Committee, explained that the title “Tabariki” is derived from the Arabic word Tabarakah, meaning abundance and blessings, and symbolises honour within the Nupe Emirate.

Reacting, Senator Mustapha described the recognition as significant and expressed appreciation to the Etsu Nupe and the emirate council for the honour.

He noted that the conferment reflects the longstanding cultural and historical ties between the Bida and Ilorin emirates, adding that such recognition encourages continued dedication to service.

Mustapha, who chairs the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Production Services and Rural Development, said the honour would further motivate him to contribute to societal development and uphold the values associated with the title.

He also pledged to carry the honour with responsibility and continue to serve with dedication.

The date for the conferment ceremony is expected to be announced by the emirate council.
