NYSC Reacts To Death Of Corps Member ‘Killed By Soldiers’ In Abuja

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says an investigation has been opened into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Corps Member, Abdulsamad Jamiu (NS/25A/2904), who lost his life during a military operation at Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei, Abuja.

A statement on Tuesday by the NYSC management explained that the Corps is actively engaging with relevant security agencies on the unfortunate incident.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, it also reiterated the commitment of the NYSC to the safety, security, and welfare of all Corps Members and staff across the country.
The management said efforts would continue to be strengthened in collaboration with security and intelligence agencies to mitigate risks and enhance protection nationwide.
“The NYSC stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult period and prays for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased,” the statement read.
Naija News reports that Jamiu was serving at Government Junior Secondary School, Bakin Ado, Nasarawa State before his unfortunate death.
Recall that the Nigerian Army on Sunday, disclosed that a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified as Abdulsamad Jamiu, lost his life during a shootout between troops and armed robbers in Abuja.

, the unfortunate incident occurred when troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group, on routine night patrol, responded to a distress call following an armed robbery attack in Shagari Estate, Dei Dei area of Abuja.
He explained that the troops came under gunfire from the fleeing armed robbers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire during which the corps member was caught in the gunfire and later died as a result of injuries sustained.
However, the family of Jamiu has rejected the military’s account of the incident.
The family, in a statement on Sunday, narrated that military personnel shot at close range through Jamiu’s room, and the shot caught him in the head, killing him instantly.
According to the statement, the sad incident was witnessed by Jamiu’s sister, who was in the house at the time, while their parents were away in Okene for a burial ceremony.
