The Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria has commended the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State for adopting a consensus approach in its recent political arrangements.

They described the move as a sign of unity, maturity and strategic leadership.

The union particularly hailed the party’s decision to adopt the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, fondly called Yayi, as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 race, maintaining that the choice of the lawmaker confirmed that the state’s growth and development trajectory would continue unhindered beyond 2027.

In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, the chairman of the association, Kayode Showunmi, praised the party leadership coordinated by Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising peace and cohesion over internal rivalry that could have affected the party’s unity and that of the state at large.

The union noted that the consensus agreement reflects a shared commitment to stability and progress within the party, which ultimately benefits the people of the state and Nigeria at large.

Showunmi said that “Senator Adeola’s emergence is well-deserved, considering his track record of service, grassroots connection, and dedication to good governance and his progressive antecedent.

“We have the confidence that Senator Adeola’s leadership will bring renewed energy and purposeful direction to the party, while also strengthening its chances in future political contests.”

The union added that Adeola’s lengthy experience in legislative matters and his commitment to development make him a suitable choice for the responsibility ahead.

He added, “We want to use this medium to appreciate the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, our father and national leader of APC, Chief Olusegun Osoba, the state party chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, other party leaders and stakeholders for ensuring a seamless transition that produced Sen Solomon Adeola Yayi as the 2027 governorship consensus candidate for Ogun State.

“This is no doubt a new beginning for our dear state. It is good that we are prioritising peace with a strong commitment to a rancour-free succession plan that will further take our dear state to the next level.

“We therefore thank everyone who has made this possible and urge all the party members and stakeholders to rally behind the consensus decision since unity remains the key to sustainable political success.

“We also called on the people of Ogun State to continue supporting leaders who demonstrate capacity and a genuine interest in public service.”

The union reaffirmed its support for the APC in Ogun State and congratulated Adeola on his emergence, expressing optimism for a more inclusive and progressive political landscape in the state.

On Monday, the Ogun APC adopted Yayi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced at a state strategic caucus meeting presided over by the state chairman of the party, Yemi Sanusi and held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.
