Ogun monarch denies zoning senatorial seat

The Olofin of Ado-Odo in Ogun State, Oba Olusola Lamidi-Osolo, has denied reports claiming that Awori traditional rulers zoned the Ogun West senatorial seat to Ado-Odo and Igbesa State Constituency.
The monarch, in a statement issued by the palace secretary, Akinsola Nasir, on Monday, clarified that the claim did not reflect what transpired at a recent meeting held at the Olota Palace, stressing that no political office was zoned by the traditional rulers.
According to him, the meeting was a strategic engagement involving traditional rulers from Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency II and their counterparts from Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency I.
Oba Lamidi-Osolo noted that the gathering was part of ongoing consultations on the political future of the local government, particularly discussions around the Ogun West Senatorial seat.
He explained that during the deliberations, he only urged the traditional council to consider advocating for the zoning of the senatorial slot to Aworiland in the interest of fairness, equity and justice.
“At no point during the deliberations was there any mention of zoning the senatorial seat to Ado-Odo/Igbesa State Constituency, as the royal fathers are not politicians as falsely suggested in the publication. They are the custodians of our culture and tradition.
“It is therefore very important to emphasise that matters of such significance require careful consensus-building and not premature conclusions capable of creating unnecessary tension or misinterpretation among stakeholders,” the monarch said.
He urged the public, political actors and media organisations to disregard the publication and verify information before dissemination.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and the preservation of traditional institutions, the monarch said all engagements by the traditional rulers would continue to be guided by collective responsibility and due process.
