Osinbajo Reveals Funny Moment in Somalia That Made Him Quit Drinking Forever

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a former vice president, gave a humorous explanation of the peculiar events that caused him to give up drinking.

He described the event that led him to decide to give up drinking in a video that went viral on social media on Tuesday.

Osinbajo clarified that even though he was a pastoralist, he occasionally drank beer and red wine.

“I occasionally enjoy my red wine, and then I enjoy my beer,” he remarked.

But everything changed for him when he met a Danish coworker in Mogadishu, Somalia.

He claims that while serving in the UN mission’s Justice Sector in Somalia, he was heading to a restaurant to buy beer when he encountered a few of his colleagues drinking.

“I was just hoping to buy two cans of Heineken and go to my room and read my Bible on this particular Sunday after returning from the Fellowship where I had preached,” he added.

The Mogadishu UN campus was home to numerous eateries. I went to this specific restaurant and noticed a lot of my international coworkers as soon as I stepped in. They were consuming alcohol.

The former vice president claims that they concealed their beverages when they noticed him. When he approached one of his Danish coworkers and inquired as to why he was concealing his whiskey, the Danish guy allegedly said, “You are the priest, and we can not be drinking around the priest.”

Osinbajo claimed that he understood the meaning of “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient” after perceiving the occurrence as a divine message.

He added that he had never drunk alcohol after that day.

Online responses to the video have been mixed. While some viewers found the narrative funny and sympathetic, others took advantage of the chance to talk about his public persona and previous political positions.
