Osun 2027: Accord Party aspirants push for fair primaries

A group of ten House of Assembly aspirants on the platform of the Accord Party in Osun State vying for the party’s ticket for Iwo State Constituency in the next general elections, have demanded a free and fair primary to choose the candidate of the party among them.

The aspirants seeking to represent Iwo State Constituency in the State House of Assembly also insisted that the current zoning arrangement in the constituency must be retained to keep the party in good shape ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.

The Accord Party aspirants, in a press statement signed on behalf of others by Lekan Lamuye, obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday, said that, going by the existing zoning arrangement, the Isale Oba Quarters, Iwo, consisting of four wards, should produce the party’s candidate for the Iwo State Constituency election.

They also noted that the current member of the Assembly, representing the constituency, Rabiu Adesina, benefitted from the zoning arrangement when he emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections.

Explaining further, they said the seat of Iwo State Constituency had rotated among Isalẹ-Ọba Quarters with 4 wards, Molete Quarters with 3 wards, Oke Adan Quarters that has 3 wards, Gidigbo Quarters with 3 wards, and Oke Oba Quarters that has 2 wards, without hitch in the past, noting that the tradition should be kept in the interest of fairness.

“For the record, the aspirants from Isalẹ-Ọba Quarters who are united in this call include: Mudasir Ibrahim, Musa Ismail Adetunji, and Monsuru Aderemi Rasheed, from Isalẹ-Ọba Ward 1.

“Adebayo Hamzat Abolusodun, Adebayo Bidemi Adeyinka, and Wasiu Taoheed Jimoh from Isalẹ-Ọba Ward 2.

“Osunwo Biliaminu Jide, Fatal Sarafa Ayofe and Mustapha Saheed Omowumi, from  Isalẹ-Ọba Ward 3, while Lamuye Emmanuel Olalekan represents Isalẹ-Ọba Ward 4.

“In line with this, we, the aspirants from Isalẹ-Ọba Quarters, have unanimously agreed that whoever emerges among the above ten (10) listed aspirants through a transparent, fair, and credible process will receive the full support of all,” the statement partly read.

They assured their readiness to work with other leaders of the party towards ensuring the success of the Accord Party in the August 15 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.

The PidomNigeria reports that the current member of the House representing Iwo State Constituency, Rabiu Adesina, recently dumped the Accord Party and joined the All Progressives Congress.

His defection was linked to the refusal of his former party to assure him of an automatic ticket to seek re-election in the 2027 poll.
