Rivers 2027: ADC Insists Only Voters Will Decide Next Governor Amid Succession

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chapter in Rivers State has denied statements ascribed to Nyesom Wike regarding the 2027 governorship succession, maintaining that the electorate alone has the power to select the state’s future leader.
Chukwudi Dimkpa, the party’s state chairman, emphasized in a speech in Port Harcourt on Friday that voting determines leadership in a democracy, not personal preference or persuasion.
According to Dimkpa, the ADC is establishing itself as a legitimate alternative in Rivers politics that is based on inclusive participation, internal democracy, and transparency. He claims that the party is attempting to create a wide-ranging movement that represents the goals of the populace.
He recognized the need of zoning in promoting inclusivity and balance, especially between upland and riverine populations. He did, however, emphasize that competence and justice must continue to be important factors.
In order to propose a candidate for governor who is both capable and broadly accepted, he continued, the ADC would choose its candidate through consultation.
Additionally, Dimkpa stated that the party would make decisions at the right time to enhance democratic values and foster unity throughout the state.
The ADC urged that decisions made prior to the 2027 elections should take these important issues into account and emphasized governance, security, and economic development as priority considerations.
