UCL: UEFA rejects Barcelona complaint over refereeing decision against Atlético

The UEFA has dismissed a complaint filed by FC Barcelona regarding a refereeing decision in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg against Atlético de Madrid.
The match was played on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, while the protest was formally submitted by Barcelona on April 13, 2026.
In an official statement on Tuesday, UEFA confirmed that the matter was reviewed by its disciplinary authorities before being thrown out.
“Following Champions League quarter-final first leg played on Wednesday 8 April 2026 between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, Barcelona filed a protest relating to a referee decision on 13 April 2026, the UEFA Control Ethics and Disciplinary Body declared the protest to be inadmissible,” the statement read.
The ruling means the complaint will not proceed to any further disciplinary process.
UEFA did not provide additional details regarding the specific incident that prompted Barcelona’s protest, nor did it indicate any further review of the match officials’ performance.
The decision effectively closes the case at disciplinary level, leaving the match result and officiating decisions unchanged.
Both clubs are expected to continue preparations for the second leg of the tie under normal competition procedures.
