In modern football, long-term coaches reigns have become increasingly rare. However, a number of legendary coaches built lasting dynasties by spending decades with a single club, shaping identities, winning trophies and becoming symbols of their teams.
Here are 10 coaches who stayed the longest time at one club in football history.
1. Guy Roux â 44 years (Auxerre)
Guy Roux spent an incredible 44 years managing French side AJ Auxerre between 1961 and 2005.
Roux guided Auxerre from amateur football to Ligue 1 champions and established the club as a respected force in France. His longevity remains one of the greatest achievements in football management history.
2. Sir Alex Ferguson â 26 years (Manchester United)
Alex Ferguson managed Manchester United from 1986 to 2013.
During his 26-year reign, Ferguson won 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies, turning United into a global powerhouse.
3. Arsène Wenger â 22 years (Arsenal)
Arsène Wenger spent 22 years at Arsenal from 1996 to 2018.
The Frenchman revolutionised English football with his modern methods, winning three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups. Wenger also led Arsenalâs famous âInvinciblesâ team that went unbeaten in the 2003/04 league season.
4. Dario Gradi â 24 years (Crewe Alexandra)

Matt Busby spent 24 years in charge of Manchester United between 1945 and 1969.
