2027: Labour Party opens screening appeals for aggrieved aspirants
By John Alechenu, ABUJA
The Labour Party has opened an appeals window for presidential, governorship, and National Assembly aspirants dissatisfied with the outcome of its screening exercise ahead of the 2026 elections.
This was contained in a public notice issued by the party’s Screening Appeals Committee, in Abuja, late on Saturday. In it, such aspirants were directed to submit Notices of Appeal and all supporting documents on or before 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026.
The committee said the appeal hearings would be conducted in line with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines, and its terms of reference.
According to the notice, the appeals will hold on Monday, May 25, 2026, between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The notice read in part, “Aspirants may complete the prescribed notice of appeal form or submit a self-drafted notice, provided it conforms to the approved format. Appellants were advised to clearly state the basis of their appeals and attach all relevant documents, with a warning that appeals submitted after the deadline would not be considered.”
The committee directed that appeals be submitted either physically or via the official email address provided. It stressed that oral submissions and notices sent through unauthorised channels would not be accepted.
The notice was signed by the Chairman of the Screening Appeals Committee, Barrister Taiwo Mary Ajayi, and the Secretary, Hajia Bintu Konto.
