2027 Primaries: Six Reps fail to secure return tickets in Ondo

In a surprising turn of events, only three of the nine serving All Progressives Congress members of the House of Representatives from Ondo State won their primaries and secured tickets to return to the Green Chamber after last Saturday’s election.

Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Ondo State, Hon. Iboroma Harry Dabibi, announced the results hours after thugs disrupted the announcement at the party secretariat in Akure.

Dabibi commended stakeholders and members for maintaining peace during the exercise.

Winners

Akoko North East/Akoko North West: Incumbent Ifeoluwa Ehindero won with 22,304 votes.

He defeated Ibrahim Moruf Tosin, 330 votes, and former commissioner Oseni Oyeniyi, 118 votes.

Ondo West/Ondo East: Incumbent Dr. Abiola Peter Makinde polled 10,847 votes to beat Ade Adeniyi, 2,045 votes, and Bola Fisayo, 1,551 votes.

Okitipupa/Irele: Dr. Damamola Olumuyiwa emerged winner with 6,547 votes, ahead of Prince Jimi Odimayo, 827 votes, and Dele Omosehin, 623 votes.

Akure North/Akure South: Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji Ohwovoriole secured 9,237 votes to defeat 10 other aspirants.

Hon. Dennis Fadairo came second with 2,120 votes, while Hon. Bamidele Ologunloluwa polled 549 votes.

Hon. Matthew Oyerimade won the Odigbo/Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo primary with 12,744 votes while Akingboye Akinleke David won the Ilaje/Ese-Odo ticket with 9,284 votes.

Meanwhile, the committee invalidated votes scored by aspirants who were not cleared by the screening committee before the contest.

Akoko South East/Akoko South West: Dr. Olusegun Victor Ategbole polled 12,011 votes but was disqualified. Hon. Adefarati Gboyega, with 1,865 valid votes, was declared winner.

Owo/Ose: Hon. Ayodeji Arowele Samuel’s 9,690 votes were invalidated for lacking screening clearance. Engr. Kayode Ijalana, with 7,098 valid votes, was declared winner.

Idanre/Ifedore: Hon. Adefisoye Tajudeen Adeyemi’s 5,463 votes were declared invalid. Former commissioner Rasaq Obe, with 4,988 valid votes, won the contest.

Dabibi commended party leaders, stakeholders, and members for the orderly conduct of the primaries, saying it reflected the APC’s commitment to internal democracy.

He urged aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to close ranks and work for the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
