Three individuals have been arrested by the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) for allegedly trying to sell a truck and goods belonging to a water production company based in Asaba, Delta State.
The suspects were apprehended by security operatives in the Igbobi area of Benin City.
The Deputy Commander of the Corps in charge of Operations, Richard Balogun, confirmed the incident to journalists, identifying the suspects as Muhammed Magaji, Muhammed Bashir, and Abba Abubakar.
He said the three travelled from Asaba with the intention of selling both the company’s vehicle and its products, and had already disposed of 150 bags of sachet water before attempting to sell the truck when they were caught.
All three have since been handed over to the police for prosecution.
According to information gathered, the truck’s driver, Muhammed Magaji, who had only been employed by the company since May 22, 2026, allegedly conspired with the other two suspects to divert a consignment of sachet water meant for distribution within the Asaba area to Benin City, where a buyer had reportedly been arranged in advance for both the goods and the vehicle.
However, the plan began to unravel upon their arrival in Benin City, as the supposed buyer failed to show up.
After waiting for an extended period, the suspects allegedly sold off the water and began searching for another buyer for the truck.
It was during this process that ESSC operatives were alerted and moved in to make the arrests.
Speaking during an interview, the driver claimed that his accomplices had contacted him and assured him a buyer was already lined up in Benin City.
He said they were still waiting for that buyer when the security operatives arrived and arrested them.
