Hayatu-Deen boycotts ADC primary results announcement, alleges rigging
A presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has announced that he will not attend the official announcement of the party’s presidential primary results scheduled for Tuesday.
In a statement posted on his X handle, Hayatu-Deen expressed concerns over the integrity of the electoral process.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps,” he wrote.
ADC conducted direct primaries across Nigeria’s wards on Monday, May 25, 2026, with over three million party members reportedly eligible to vote.
The contest featured three major aspirants: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and Hayatu-Deen, a former chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.
Early results from several states indicated that Atiku Abubakar secured strong leads in states such as Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, Imo and Abia, prompting speculation that he is on course to clinch the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
Amaechi also won in Bayelsa.
The development comes as the ADC positions itself as a key opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, aiming to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
