Abia 2027: Michael Okpara’s son rallies kinsmen for Otti, vows block votes

Chief Uzodinma Okpara, son of the late Premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara, has inaugurated “Ohuhu For Dr. Alex Otti 2027”, a political support movement mobilising for the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, with the slogan: “Otti or Nothing.”

The inauguration, held at Okpara’s country home in Ohuhu Clan, Umuahia North Local Government Area, drew political stakeholders, technocrats and pro-Otti groups across the state.

Speaking at the event, Chief Okpara said the group was formed in recognition of Governor Otti’s “exceptional performance” in less than three years in office, insisting that continuity would accelerate development across Abia.

He charged members to take the governor’s achievements to the grassroots, declaring that “the reward for good work is more work.”

Okpara assured the governor that Ohuhu people would deliver massive votes for him in 2027, while also backing Hon. Obi Aguocha, member representing Umuahia North/Umuahia South/Ikwuano Federal Constituency, for a second term.

Coordinator of the group, Chief Nmere Asonye, described Ohuhu as a politically sophisticated clan that could not remain silent about the future of Abia.

According to him, Governor Otti had rescued the state from years of stagnation and was actively building a “New Abia.”

“For over two decades, Abia suffered bad governance, but in 2023 light broke through the darkness with the emergence of Alex Otti,” he said.

Leaders of another pro-Otti platform, Alpha Arise, led by Mazi Ugochukwu Okorafor and Dr. Godwin Duru, likened Otti’s leadership to that of the late Dr Michael Okpara, famed for transforming the old Eastern Region into one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies.

Mayor of Umuahia North, Mr. Smart Iheoma, vowed that Ohuhu would surmount every challenge to ensure Otti’s re-election, advising opposition figures to focus on obtaining PVCs rather than “wasting resources” on campaigns.

Also endorsing the governor’s second term bid was the Commissioner representing Abia at the Federal Character Commission, Dr. Victor Ikeji, who sent a representative from Abuja to convey his support.

The highlight of the event was a solidarity pledge led by Chief Uzodinma Okpara, where members openly committed themselves to Governor Otti’s 2027 re-election project.
