ALGON donates 30 operational vehicles to security agencies in Osun
By Shina Abubakar Osogbo
The Association Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON in Osun State has donated 30 patrol vehicles to security agencies to bolster security operations across the State.
Among the security agencies that benefitted from the pick up patrol vehicles are the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Nigeria Immigration Service among others.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, ALGON chairman in Osun, Mr Samuel Idowu, disclosed that the event is a testament to ALGON’s commitment to the security and well-being of the people of the State.
He added that the provision of the vehicle by local government councils in the state could not have been possible without the autonomy granted the third tier of government by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
“As the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, I am proud to affirm that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people. We understand the peculiar security challenges within our communities, and we are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively.
“The provision of these patrol vehicles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria. It shows that when empowered, local governments can become strong pillars in the architecture of national security and development.
“May I humbly inform our security agencies and the entire State that we have procured 90 number units of this new security patrol vehicles and other security equipments which will be handed over to our security agencies in batches before the end of this month of May 2025. I want to say that no community can witness any development if security of lives and property is not guaranteed”, he said.
Responding, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan said, “these operational vehicles will significantly enhance our capacity to dominate public spaces, engage in proactive surveillance, speedy response to distress calls, ease patrols, visibility policing, and ultimately improve our overall operational efficiency for the safety of the state”.
