APC reverses Plateau reps primary result, declares Yusuf Gagdi winner

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reversed the outcome of its Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam House of representatives primary election in Plateau State, declaring Yusuf Gagdi, the incumbent lawmaker as  authentic winner.

The decision was announced on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Jos by Stella Okotete, the chairman of the APC Plateau State Primaries Electoral Committee who disowned an earlier declaration that had named John Tongshinen as winner.

Okotete said the initial result was invalid because it was not announced by the officially designated returning officer, stressing that only authorised officials had the mandate to declare election outcomes.

Following the clarification, returning officer Nandom Kura formally declared Gagdi winner of the primary election, ending the dispute over the contest.

Earlier, Tongshinen had been announced as winner by another official at the constituency level, sparking controversy and rejection from Gagdi, who insisted the process was properly conducted across all wards with supporting evidence.

With the party’s latest position, Gagdi—who currently chairs the House Committee on Navy—has been confirmed as the APC candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
