C/River Central: Senator Eteng rules out exit, affirms bid for second term

Senator Eteng Williams (APC, Cross River) has dismissed reports suggesting he was quitting the 2027 senatorial race for the Cross River Central district, insisting he remains the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the position.

The senator, who is seeking re-election, made the clarification while interacting with newsmen on Monday in Mkpani, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.

Senator Eteng said the claim making the rounds in some quarters was false and did not reflect his position or intention.

He noted that following the disqualification of his only challenger, Oden Ewa, by the national leadership of the APC, he is the party’s undisputed flagbearer for the district.

“I am sure of winning the elections. Nothing can stop me from winning as I have done well for my people,” he said.

The senator expressed confidence that he would secure the party’s ticket and triumph in the general election.

He disclosed that he had carried out extensive consultations across the district and received strong assurances of support from his constituents.

“I feel happy that my people really want me. The support is not done in one room or in isolation. It is done here in an open place. You can see that almost everybody here wants me to be in the race,” He added.

Reflecting on his political journey, the senator said he was not new to electoral battles, having been involved in such contests since 2011.

He maintained that the visible and public backing he enjoys from the people underscores their desire for him to continue representing the district at the Senate.
