Canary Islands horror sex attack on tourist on one of Tenerife's most popular beaches

A young tourist has allegedly been sexually assaulted on one of Tenerife’s most famous beaches. The woman, whose age and nationality has not been released, was said to have been attacked in the southern resort of Los Cristianos, hugely favoured by British holidaymakers.

The events under investigation were triggered when the victim was in a well-known entertainment venue located in San Telmo, in the tourist centre of Los Cristianos. According to police sources, the young woman began to feel ill and suffered a momentary fainting. A man in the club pretended to know the victim and publicly offered to help her.

Because of this, he managed to get her out of the commercial establishment without raising suspicion among the staff of the premises.

Two citizens in the vicinity of the leisure area reportedly tried to help the young woman after noticing her condition. However, the man identified himself to them as a close friend of the victim, which is why the witnesses initially allowed him to take care of her.

Despite the man’s explanations, they became suspicious when they saw the direction he was taking the victim. Fearing that he might take advantage of her near-unconscious state and harm her, they decided to discreetly follow him.

The surveillance ended at Los Cristianos beach, where the witnesses located the individual in the act of allegedly sexually assaulting the young woman.

Upon being discovered by the two witnesses, the man reportedly immediately fled on foot, preventing the citizens from catching him.

The National Police took over the case and launched a thorough investigation to clarify the facts. Officers at the police headquarters gathered various technical data and images from security cameras in the San Telmo area and its surroundings.

The investigators were able to identify a suspect and subsequently located him in the south of the island. After being arrested on charges of sexual assault, the detainee was taken to police headquarters before being brought before a judge.

The National Police has reiterated the importance of citizen collaboration and the immediate reporting of any criminal act related to gender violence and sexual assault in the archipelago.
